1. Sort and Group

Choose the room or area you want to work in.  In fact, it is okay to only tackle a corner, a dresser as well as a drawer.  The key is to just get started.

Make 3 labels – keep, donate, and trash and put them on a box, bin, or even just on the floor to make a pile. Start sorting!

Put like items with like items (pants with pants, plates with plates, toiletries with toiletries, etc.) so it’s easy for you to see exactly what you have.

Don’t worry about putting anything away right now – you are just sorting things out!  If you see anything you know you don’t want, put it in the donate or trash category,  otherwise – just sort and group.

2.  De-Clutter The Sort For House Organization

Take a look at everything you have sorted through as well as through each little group one by one.

For example, if you’re doing a closet, you would have hats, belts, pants, dresses, shirts, shorts, shoes, jackets, sweaters, and maybe even a couple of other categories depending on how specific you want to get and the clothing you wear.

The important thing to keep in mind is that if something isn’t in good condition or you haven’t used it in a long time, it’s time to let it go.

Once you have everything sorted and decluttered, grab your boxes or piles for donation and trash. Put them in your car to take to the donation center, and throw the trash outside in your garbage can. Don’t leave them in the house or you will be tempted just to bring it all back to the same space.

3.  Organize Your House!

Ahh…our favorite part: Organizing!  A place for everything as well as everything in its place.

Decide how you are going to use the space for your items. If it’s a closet, what will be hung up and what will be folded on the shelves? If you’re working in your kitchen, think of how you use the space and what should go where.

Put things away in the same groupings you sorted them out in so things are always organized. Sort by size and color to make the space visually appealing – plus, it’s easier to get to your stuff!
